A judiciousconsideration ofloading and durability exigencies is fundamental to the design of robust structural concrete. In practice, thesedemandsare met with by ascribingto the measuresdelineated byrelevant design standards. While the standards in vogueendorse refined provisions to ensure effectiveutilization of concrete for structural action, they commonlyset outprescriptive guidelines to provide for endurance against the influence of service environment. Thislaxity oftenleads topremature durability failuresunder atypical conditions reinforcing the necessity of having a scientificcognizance of thedegradation processes. Of significance to this context is the detrimental role of moistureaccumulated within the porous matrix of concrete.
