Dr. Ashutosh Kumar is currently working as Assistant Professor of Geotechnical Engineering in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi), India. Before joining IIT Mandi, Dr Ashutosh worked as a postdoctoral research associate at Durham University UK and part-time lecturer at Teesside University UK. He obtained PhD degree from IIT Bombay and is recipient of IIT Bombay Best PhD thesis award, conferred by Prime minister of India. He was visiting scientist at Technical University Darmstadt, Germany supported by DAAD Scholarship during 2024. He is co-recipient of 2023 Royal Society London International Exchanges Award. He is the recipient of Prestigious IACMAG John Carter Award – 2022 from the International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG), AZ, USA. He has served as 2023 IHRR Global Fellow of Durham University and has been awarded 2019 outstanding reviewer award from ASCE International Journal of Geomechanics and is currently serving as the Editorial Board member of this journal. He was also awarded an ISSMGE student scholarship to attend a geotechnical earthquake engineering conference in New Zealand in 2015. He is also a 2013 DAAD fellowship awardee from Germany and also served as a 2016 DAAD Young Ambassador for DAAD India. He has also been selected as an early-stage researcher to attend and present his research work in the Researcher Link workshop that was organized in Brazil during September 2018 supported by Newton Fund of UK. He has developed international research skills through collaboration with Durham University on CACTUS and SEAL projects. He has experience working in multi-national teams through Transport Africa and Seismic safety of Kathmandu’s historic urban infrastructure investigating the causes of the collapse of UNESCO World Heritage sites in Nepal. He has published over 50 papers in various Journals of International repute and various conferences and is an active reviewer of several international journals.
